Belize-GREAT BLUE HOLE
Part of the Lighthouse Reef system, it lies approximately 60 miles off the mainland out of Belize City. Its perfect circular holes approximately 0.4 kilometers across and 480 meters deep which brings the deep blue color. Its surrounding structures is made up of a perfect circular limestone, giving the site like a eye or pupil in the sea.
They have recorded chambers filled with stalactites and stalagmites which only form in dry caves. This is a prof that thousand of years ago (approx 65,000 years ago) the sea level of the Bahamas was up to 150 meters low than it is today, probably happened when the world was in the grip of a major ice age. When the sea levels rose up again due to the melting of the ice, it eroded the limestone of the island, making it collapsed inward thus creating the formation of Blue Holes.
Its rich aquatic life and vast corals to see, its a diver's paradise. Some divers and marine life researchers had reported some marine life which are new to science. Inside the hole there are several channels leading to more caves. And maybe some are waiting to be discovered.
